... Of Muttonchops and Masons

A man with muttonchop whiskers helped move the New York obelisk from Egypt:

"May I?" he nodded at her laptop. He stepped over the railing and sat down on the second step, patting the step next to him, while he balanced her laptop on his knees. She sat beside him, resting her back against the base. Gliffy pulled his USB memory stick out of his Swiss army knife and plugged it into Kate’s laptop. "Let's start with old Muttonchops Vanderbilt himself, who financed its move ..." he began, showing her a photograph of the man.  “Henry William’s father didn’t think much of him, but when he died he did leave him a fortune - $100 million.”
GorringeHenry Honeychurch Gorringe, the man who moved the obelisk from Egypt, was, like Dixon, the engineer who moved the London one, a Mason. When it was erected in Central Park, Masonic markings were discovered.
... Two Flags are better than One
Moving the obelisk from Egypt to New York was not an easy task. Problems in Egypt meant that it needed protection from Russia and from the US Navy before it could be loaded onboard its ship for its journey home:
"Even though Gorringe was a Navy man?" Kate exclaimed.
"That helped. The captain said he would protect the American flag if that was under threat."
"As he should," she remarked with satisfaction.
"So Henry Honeychurch decides to wrap his obelisk in the flag, and tries to find a spare American flag," Gliffy continued his story. "There isn't one to be had. This doesn't stop the determined Henry Honeychurch. He buys strips of cloth the right colors and with one man to help him sews a new US flag overnight and ties it to the top of the obelisk."
Gliffy showed her a photograph of the obelisk with the flag fluttering on top of it.

The Story

What is the link between seven obelisks that are sending out signals, a TV show on global warming, and a microbe that threatens the world’s oil supplies? And who is willing to kill to prevent others finding this link?

When Nick Kangles, the host of a global warming TV show, microbiologist Kate Stanton and Egyptologist Gliffy discover that an Egyptian obelisk in Rome is sending out signals, they set out on an increasingly dangerous hunt across Europe, Egypt and America to find the secret of the signals.
